Halloween is unique to American culture. There is much depth and variety to its celebration. Young children who have not experienced it are often frightened by the appearance of ghost and goblins at the door. Eventually, they find a new meaning to the holiday as they dress up and go “trick or treating” Gathering candy and walking the neighborhood is only part of the month long event. Trips are made to the local “pumpkin patch” to retrieve the perfect pumpkin. Considerable thought is given to carving the gourd into an intricate design worthy of the awe of the neighbors. Families take hayrides and try to unravel the mystery of cornfield mazes round out the holiday. Halloween lingers with the countless trips to the candy bag all the way until Thanksgiving.
